an old Rolling Stones song, as i recall… and then I’m as old as the ‘Stones’ so if you can’t remember, it’s okay…it was a quiet a night in A-Town as it gets…dos Reilly’s closed, anyone else with a lick of sense lo mismo…only Gaia on upper 5th hopin’ for walk-ins…the very delicious Flor M closing shop at 7..Alex of Sobermesa recounting a long day in the City..involving tuxedos and rum…go ask him..it was hilarious.

Frener Printing!…5th ave sur…cranked a perfect copy of the book in  24 hours!…Mike bought the only copy ever in white(the cover)..everyone else asked about the choice between the orange-ish red and the white version went for the orange-ish red…thank you, one and all…i felt the same but there’s been times when my judgement(sic)hasn’t been exactly 100%…

looks like Maggie M has rented out the space between what was Poco a Todos and the new cafe casaca(and they’re doing great)…Los Cebollinas doing a decent breakfast biz, at least on the weekends…otherwise, it’s a dead zone…and if I start flogging the Great Venetian Masked Ball..Feb 17th, San Jose El Viejo…it’s because the ever delectable Gabi talked me into being the ‘moderator’…whatever that entails(means)…

thanks again to Franklin of the Whiskey Den, Robbin Haas(B5) and John Rexer for signing off on orders of the book..the Pirate Radio Guy in Travel Menu…the project is hung up, just a little bit…it’ll fly,,,give it time…

the fire is smoldering in the fireplace(i can smell it) and a match to the paper would accelerate events…and daughter #2 is moving to Wales with her her husband…whatta day..i love this life..tim for a shot of pavlov and then start barking like a dog when the bell rings…woof!

‘been one of those days…and it’s early still..’passed ‘she of the smile/laugh’ earlier…no recognition…ok, fine…it was what it was, when it was..and i thank her for that.

Panza Verde? idiots…firing the one marketing/graphics person who’s done a helluva job? adios, ms A…too good, too talented, too gorgeous and too threatening to the tiny brains(sic)running the place..as always, money talks and bullshit walks…they’ll play hell finding a replacement…was it $$ or envy? pick B…too good for that operation..

Pangea’s Edy in tonight, with a small dinner crowd…please, make him an offer to buy the plaee and yes, they’re still advertising for a bartender..and thank you, Pat F..explaining that the real Emma is in England and not cavorting with Peter in Texass..i know..i take one plus two and it equals sic..sis..six

no, not the flare gun nor the Beretta…the book, Our Man in Antigua, will be available in print very soon…they’re shipping it to me on Jan 6th, proof copies…wuz gonna wait for the ‘graphics people’ and hope that the cover would be the same as the ebook…let’s just say that there were technical issues and leave it at that…’did the cover myself and cranked it..for a look, go to https://www.createspace.com/3755222  and out on Amazon.com next week…

kudos to Ocelot for pumping 100 Reasons why I like Antigua..however…different subject…the closed circuit tv attraced one dude who thought he was watching television…in a way, yes…no commercials..and no remote…

Nadooush, the new Gaia style joint on 6th  avenida norte? long, narrow…visualize Sangre’s footprint..dunno ’bout their business plan unless it’s another laundramat…the Restaurant Daikiri, in what was part of Restaurant Roadkill(previous Fusion)…gave up on the coffee shop idea and is now configured as a bar..

the new jewelry store next to Katun on the square? had their first robbery yesterday and now has a guard…’welcome to Antigua..speaking of Sangre…where the hell is the Man from Austin…the previous landlord/tenant? ‘haven’t seen him in months…

and why are there still tons of people in town, walking the streets after dark? shopping or at least window-gazing..ever wonder how/why Jades Antigua can afford two stores on 5ta norte? one at least huge..staff of 5-6, several rooms and an electric bill that’s gotta be staggering..Pat F back early from the YouEss of A…yep, it was cold..’brought back a jar of pickle relish for a pal(and he declared it in customs) the divine Miss E and Peter the H in Texas together? i’d heard that they’d had a ‘thing’ long time ago…rekindled?no, not the ebook reader…thank you, P.F for suggesting the shuttle drivers as a place to pimp the book…’hadn’t occured to me..duh..a few more days and this year is dead, gonzo and over..someone asked about the bandidos up north…Guate’s doofuss about to be ex-president declare three ‘States of Siege’ this year…some kinda record? one would hope that the incoming dude has the courage to clean up that part of the country and bring back tourists(alive and not robbed)..the only thing that Gautemala is #1 is in credit card fraud…not a record to be proud of..manana? Hump Day…go ‘do’ someone…lastly, Ignacio the Cuban? playing at Pangea tonight…why? for who? get the $$, dude..and then play..stick a fork in that place(they’re done)

Strange Streets

‘saw a large group of people walking south on 5ta, accompanied by torch bearers…uh oh…lynching party?

they ended up in front of the Palacio, with the Escobar gang explaining something…thought maybe their credit cards didn’t clear…nope, some kinda ‘cultural/turismo thing…

big smiles at Da Vinci and Pangea tonight…customers and lots of ‘em..O’lot with a large party…4th calle doin’ a few there, a few there…alas, Abassi…morgue-like…upper 1st Ave isn’t exactly rockin’….a group of five…5! horse/buggies,nose to tail going up 4th calle…to where? not the gas station..

el Muro? stopped by to say hi to Max…’says that he’s planning something for Saturday night…almost didn’t get away from the ‘girls’…one borrowed my ring and the other suggested that we get married…yikes..maybe on the new ‘Mexican’ trial plan…let’s see how it works out in the morning, etc…

again…major kudos to Walter Fischer and INGUAT…and Da Mayor…things are getting done all over the town. What used to be the ‘pissing wall’ outside my previous abode is now getting cobblestones and likewise around the corner from what was the Mayan Moon Cafe, now a tienda(competing with the other 5 or 6 on 4th norte..the Nazarene Cultural Center? offering food, classes and what else…i don’t get it but that’s nothing new…ran into Plumb Bob and Luke outside of dos Reilly’s…thought maybe Carla B would be at Travel
Menu…last night here and all that…nope, per PB, a flat tire earlier on Dori and she’s outa here tomorrow for a stint/trial at Rio Dulce…’wish her the best..oh..the photo of Gina C taking off her clothes?

i’d popped in to say hi to Nick Z, met his mom/sister(I think she was his sister) at el Portal…Gina and I were taking photos of each other earlier..this was ‘payback’…and I’m getting a new bonus living here…the delicious Flor of Dasha jogs past in the mornings, about 9ish..hey, i’m old..i take what comes..for me, i’m like Santa Claus..once a year..another perfect evening, xlnt temperature and the PNC? all over town…visible…in force…walking the beat, cruising on bikes…upper 5th? Cashbar…rest of ‘em hoping, wishing and dreaming..

me and a buncha bars/restaurants…hm…restau ‘rants…’could be a title for a review of such…what’s up or more exactly, not up with Ocelot and their trade? Lava’s still pulling ‘em in but I’m not seeing the crowds of regulars/tourists that has been..bartenders? music? both? dos Reilly’s is pulling in both groups…hmm

ah…the Caffe Bourbon mess…’had a long chat with Sarah…whew…what a story…attorneys left and right, threats…’what we have here is a failure to communicate’ to quote Strother Martin from Cool Hand Luke..i’m amazed, having spent most of my life(sic)in/around real estate, contracts and so on..let’s just say that it ain’t over…ask Sarah for details but be prepared to spend fifteen minutes..

Junior Woodchucks! stand down…it appears that the giant fiery object in the sky as noted by Bull Durham is …Jupiter, making a very close approach to Earth…no..not Uranus…or mine…

Ricardo’s T&V doing just fine…packed around six and then the marvelous Marvel pulled up…a white outfit..yeah, i stopped in, had a scotch, talked about fiambre, kept my eyes mostly averted…mostly…

north 5ta deadzo…Sangre, Cashbar, Studio 35 closed..Gaia dreaming…Sobremesa closed, a few others ought to have…ah! Edy’s mention of the ’7:30′ event? changed to 6:30…a party of 20! added to the existing party of 12 in the dining room…whoda thunk that Pangea was crankin’ 30+ dinners?

an interesting mix of turistas in town..lotta straight white people, mixed with some backpackers and some dreadlocks here and there..end of October? off season, Halloweeners? if nothing else, the %$#@! rains have stopped…some say its ‘over’ and some say two more weeks..at least we’re not in the path of the hurricane (so far) take that, Belize, you scum-sucking hellhole..

heard from an ex-pat just back from a few months in La Ceiba(Hondo)that the bridge in Copan, just past the Hedman-Alas terminal is gonzo..’making the transfer onweird hard and the buses from here only go as far as the station there..and return…’screwing up the schedule, obviously..if you’ve thought of going past Copan on the bus..the shuttles are doing the back route thru Copan, since they’re smaller..Copan…another problem, just what they needed..the border? a new larger immigration building but…only one window manned, making the in/out  process still glacial…the Venetian Ball’s domain name is coming up for renewal in November..’guess I need to check in to see if they want to renew it(implying another ‘Ball)…’didn’t do last years…during the time of the ATM thieves and i’d been tapped big time…hey, learning to be frugal isn’t all that bad…no, it sucks..and I’ve learned to shop at the Paca..o..good news about that place by Sipacate but i promised not to tell..
