Bodogona has Flor de Cana 7 yr old rum!…that, plus the 1.75 liter jug brought in from Nicaragua today has me in a minor state of bliss…look, I’m a simple guy, ok?

check out La Cuadra’s latest issue: page 16 for Frank of Nim P’ot’s Top Ten Reasons to visit Guatemala…I’m kinda fond of ‘most laws not enforced’…send in your suggestions for next month’s Top Ten…this is fun..speaking of fun..

Jason of Lava’s birthday bash tonight…a roast pig and a lamb…fabulous…the usual scoundrels plus a few new additions….the Gang of Four goes fishing in the morning…telephone calls at 4am…’Wake up!”

this may well be my favorite time of year…the purple blossoms of the jacaranda trees, the purple of bouganvillea vines, the purple bunting hanging from the windows around town…warm days, perfect nights..

guess who’s back? Pat F…..g Farrell!…been gone almost a year and shows up? yep…welcome back…he mentioned visiting Don Marco in  the pen…remember that FBI bust in the park? Don M gets out in September but he’s restricted from traveling for two years, but as I said..’hey, he’s got his brother’s passport, eh?’…and yes, the PNC in action last night! caught a 16 yr old perp(the other 6 got away)trying to crack into Gaia..upper 5th, ok? if they were and the cops think so, this is/was the gang responsible for the 11 or so break-ins around town recently…bypassing alarms, eh?  hmm..who used to work for an alarm installation company?

the ex-restaurant Panchoy on 6th ave sur, by dos Reilly’s? major renovations…its a big  place and going up against Las Cebollinas? no  worries from the better place, Da Vinci (my favorite per decor) who is going the ‘pizza-pizza route’…why? a class joint? I guess pizza is better than nothing..same could be said about Christophe but I’m not going there..and another shop opening next to dos Reilly’s..what? who knows? probably a travel agency/spanish school/pizza/mayan crafts…getcher t-shirts here, altho I see that more than one clothing store is going the ’50% off’ route…

the very elegant Catherine D, dining alone at El Sabor Tiempo…when she mentioned rabbit stew I had to mention ‘Thumper’…I left before she threw her wine at me..and yes, the March issue of Our Man is up on Amazon.com….getcher Christmas shopping done early (I need the $$)a few more outlets in town and thanks to the recent influx of tourists it’s moving…thank god..where’s the Flor of Dasha? haven’t seen her on the streets nor seen any sign that she’s opened a new store…damn..she is  a ‘visual treat’…my Flor? on the counter, waiting for a refill…have a great Thursday, the end of February and so on..

Have Mercy on Me!

Mercedes Balacano, long time integral part of the main stay, core group of Reillys here and there, leaving us for Icedland…no, Iceland next month…’something about a job in some town outside of Rejkavik, with a free plane ticket…leaves us in March, with a last bash/shuttle at Reilly’s-Guate…as i said to her, she’s the Mercedes of women…I confess to having spent a long Memorial Day weekend in Rejkavik….no places/reservations around San  Francisco, so why not..8 years ago, +/-…it never did quite dark and  all i remember is this club Exotic, where Eastern European babes were working the poles..and the Czechs and me.

a long conversation with Alex Long of Fusion, who’s mini-mall of Nido Antigua got popped last week or so..the perps bypassed Fusion’s alarm system and helped themselves to some specific items, mostly electronics…TOSA, inside, got plundered mildly and no, the thieves didn’t take any of the Tibetan ‘singing bowls.’ So, now we’re up to  eleven burglaries this month in Antigua? on the other hand, the PNC did have two minor victories: they busted a local band of extortionists, who called themselves the ‘Piwis Locos’….did Pee Wee Herman start something or what? oh…a truck load of drunken CONRED employees bumped into a few cars over the weekend and totalled the pickup….’must’ve been an interesting Monday morning office meeting.

some of our annual  ’snow birds’ are leaving…Hogan, next week, followed by a  slow exodus thru May….the laughter level at the park and at the Lush Hour at Ocelot will be diminished, sadly…

one for HBT…. http://www.examiner.com/article/escape-from-semuc-champey?cid=db_articles

I haven’t been to La Salas’ Monday Night Salsa fests but if Mikhail’s Navy at Lava is any clue, salsa is BIG….20+ folks troop in, every Monday night to shake their…whatever it is they shake..I’m just luck enough to  sit in my  chair, must less get up and shake something..

what else? the 2nd Annual HBT Fishing Derby is probably on for this week…’might be short a passenger….might be looking for a master baiter, so if you’re…uh, ‘up’ for this, call Parlama and check in or else with HBT… and yes, I missed Antigua’s den mother extraordinaire, Carla B and her Monday Night Pub Crawl…hey, it was a toss up between going to Mass or A.A…or hitting the Sunshine Grill for a piece of pizza to take home. Answer? C…

and, the night that I found Jesus…..on the bar at the old Reilly’s..with Don Marco..how apropos, no?Image

Senoritas…actually it was two outa three for me…the first two although the Ocelot patio at happy hour had an overflow/unusually large group of senoritas…ok, ‘overflow’ isn’t the right word.

Juan Manuel of Whiskey Den? an angel in disguise for Hogan….Hogan lost his wallet a few nights ago…where, how? it’s Hogan, ok? yesterday Juan returned the lost wallet, intact…$500, credit cards, etc…the cards were cancelled but  the gesture remarkable…two cheers for Juan! ask Hogan about ‘Two Stroke Pete’ for laughs, btw..

Henrik and Shaun talking again…gotta be biz…Micho’s closed on a Wed, same as Montecristo….Sobremesa closed for a week or so, while Alex/Rita are playing in Mexico City..the SOSA booth at the entrance to Nido Antigua gone and the spa in back closed? looks that way…Mama’s doing a decent crowd..Scott S and spouse at El Cazadore Italiano, Carlos Tomas of Dyslexia enjoying a street vendor tostada at the corner of 5th Ave/4th Calle…

http://www.examiner.com/article/a-bridge-to-nowhere?cid=db_articles

whew..the rash of burglaries this month! good thing that Antigua has all those video cameras at the street corners and there’s that new group of some 20 Army guys to stop all this stuff..saw where La Cenicenta moved to on 5th Ave..next to Tacodiscontento…La C will do fine…Tacos etc hasn’t made their monthly nut since they opened shop…one of the two Caitlynns seen yesterday…did i already write about this? hey, I’m old, ok? and the fumes from the muriatic acid that i’m marinating some minerals in do a great job of cleaning out my sinuses..

Aside from Ricardo’s Tabacos y Vinos (always jammed) that block of 5th Ave is a ghost town..ghost street? Sangre’s waiters are now at the entrance, hoping…and wishing..the old Reilly’s locatioin? a huge load of cinder blocks and serious wood beans went thru the door today…maybe they’ll open in a year?

ok…go outside and enjoy the half moon and the stars…i’ve got enough ice for another margarita, no senorita and enough leftover fajita stuffing for tomorrow..

yeah, the invention of the Lazy Boy killed them off. If Quakers are having a good time, are they feeling their oats?

sorry…blame it on the bossanova…’heard that Barb’s party yesterday was a roaring success and catered by Spiro..I tried to get there, dammnit…friggin’ traffic/procession…a howling success, one notch higher, would have involved riotous behavior, nudity and excessive consumption of various ingredients…work on this…and don’t schedule a party on a day of a procession, por favor..

Caffe Opera gonzo/closed, a long time Antigua business…was there a poster of Sophia Loren, in the famous wet tshirt from ‘Boy on a Dolphin’ there? and the crappy piano that the Cuban pounded hell out of…oops, another snag for the newly opening(now closed)Papa Town….no licence and closed…’heard that 50000q would’ve solved things…welcome back, Mary and Robbin…Reid’s pal flies outa here in the morning…thanks, HBT, for remembering the Gay Pride/march of the coquetas in Coban last Friday…20+ men in drag/makeup…not very  well done, but in Guatemala?

Edgar’s Sunshine Grille? packed…no seats/tables left…yeah, he was broken into/robbed last month, as were a lotta business’ were in town..left i did with a slice of pizza and not bad…being somewhat of an ex-food snob(Guatemala will diminish that trait) pizza in Salama’ last week at a Domino’s was xlnt…’guess I gotta try out the local version but not tonight…the El Gato Negro and the Sunshine Grill pizza canceled each other out just right…one killed the taste of the other, in other words.

Reilly’s Granada set to open next weekend…they should do well, given that Granada is a serious party town, unlike Antigua…and lastly(thank god you think)the two witchisest/witchiest women in town..no, make that 3…Claudia #1 at the desk in Da Vinci, Angel of Djinn(whew!)and the return of Beverly in the Ocelot patio…oh, the Monday night salsa event at Lava? smasheroo! packed…Mikhail has ‘em hooked but WTF is that tall blue-colored cocktail that he drinks? A ‘Blue Hawaii’?  I know! it’s a ‘Blue Job’!…drum roll…

nah…it’s just a silly ‘headline’….headline? don’t go there…the inauguration of of Von Ryan’s Express Booze Bus to Zone One in the City started tonight….300q, 9 seats on a shuttle, leaves/left dos Reilly’s by now and due back in A town by 1am or so..I  knew about it, because i ran into Ryan last week….Carlos of Guiness Travel knew about it and so did ‘Whole’ Wheat, who was in dos Reilly’s and ready to go…I gotta feeling that the ‘word’ hadn’t been sufficiently spread around. Event planning, like parties, requires ‘planning’…to fill the shuttle of 9 passengers, one should’ve have at least 12 confirmed seats sold, figuring on a ‘fade rate’ of 25%….it’s kind of a good idea, getting people outa town and into the newly revitalized Zone 1 and especially to Reilly’s Gaute, where there’s a live Irish band tonight…who knows?

Ask Lori Shea about ‘Asperger’ hamburgers, for a laugh/blush….

one of our local white knights in disguise has come to the rescue of a a local damsel…doctor’s stuff, meds and so on…no names, por favor but it’s a good deed, seldom seen anymore and the mark of a gentleman/scholar.

and I spaced going to the new BBQ place on 6th avenida…11-4, Thu/Fri/Sat…Sunday, maybe…bad notes, poor memory, somewhere around Ubi Sushi or the gym….bbq, not grilled(the Man from Austin would approve)except where the hell is he? riding his horse all day, from one end of the ranch to the other? how long could that take?

Ocelot’s new pub food menu is getting raves/beter….Shaun brought in lettuce/feta cheese for the geek…no, greek salad…Rafa’s Bistro, across the street, now has their menu posted on the outside…

JB of the Revue? not playing golf today(usually twice a week and he’s got an 8 handicap)and going to work…work? instead? whoa…JB…this is not good…work over golf?

Miss 8;30? smashing, heart-stopping at 8:15, crossing in front of Lilis newspaper corner..if only i was 50 years younger….Reid, you  pervert…where are you? i send you an ‘eyes only’ photo of an old girlfriend in Costa Rica and you disappear? if you’ve been in CR….not to worry, I’ve got her name/phone etc..

big time thanks to Jaime of Rio Suerte.com for the url’s for the texas map site for guatemala!..every f….king topo map of Guatemala you ever wanted…yeah, I’ve printed out a few, in preparation for next week’s jaunt of the jaded crew of wackos…up into Baja Verapaz and so on…let’s see…pack the Depends, pick up more Preparation H and  dust off the Beretta…let’s just hope that the latest info is semi-correct per mineral sites..either that or double the rum rations…o hell, double the rations anyway…bugs/mosquitoes, you know….and take credit cards!
